Played my first round of golf in Indonesia near Bogor today. It was actually in the mountains about an hour south of Jakarta (with light traffic because of a public
holiday). The course was Gunung Geulis Golf & Resort
caddies…all women. My colleague arranged for me to have a caddie who spoke
good English which was a huge plus for me. What surprised me even more about my caddie (Fran Siska) was that she was actually very good and knew the course very well
including the greens. I can guarantee that my score was improved because of
of locals lined up along the tree lines and security guards every few holes. The
locals were actually very helpful to let you know if your ball went out of
bounds by raising their hands over their heads making the O symbol – gee thanks!
There were also several holes where locals were at the tee boxes trying to sell
golf balls – which I ended up buying just in case – and it turned out that I
needed them after losing the two balls I was loaned by my colleague. Overall it
was a great experience and I look forward to the next adventure.
